Family Psychotherapist

Adam Lewis

Thank-you for taking the time to visit my page on the Rowan House Web-site.

I’m originally from Lichfield in Staffordshire where I lived for 19 years with my parents and my elder brother. Living with my family taught me that social, physical, emotional and environmental barriers can be overcome with determination and resilience. My motivation to work with people experiencing adversity, and empower them lead meaningful lives led me to train as an Occupational Therapist.

I graduated as an Occupational Therapist in 2000, and have worked in the NHS since this time. I have spent the majority of my career working in mental health provision, working with elder adults, working age adults and children.

As an Occupational Therapist I became interested in relationships. Whether it is with family, friends, colleague and professionals; good relationships are essential to having meaningful and fulfilling lives. This interest led me to graduate in 2011 as Systemic Family Psychotherapist. Since 2011 I have worked passionately in meeting the emotional and relational needs of children, adults and families.

My passion in helping families, couples and young people has led to a variety of interests. As a dad, brother and son I’m interested in the role that fathers and males have in the lives of young people. I have an interest in attachment theory and have completed many short courses that support this. I enjoy learning and have continuously attended courses and conferences to expand the range of therapeutic techniques and approaches that I’m able to offer.

Finally, to support families, it is essential that therapists and other caring professionals such as doctors, social workers, nurses, and teachers feel positive about the work that they do. I have therefore recently completed the training to become a supervisor in systemic practice. I currently supervise professionals from a variety of backgrounds including health, education, social care and charities.
